UPDATE, 5:17: Manager Joe Maddon said he wanted the band - Sol Caribe. from Tampa - to liven things up in the clubhouse coming off the off-day, and the plantains a tribute to Fernando Rodney, who has been sporting a lucky plantain on occasion.

"It came to me (after Sunday's game), I thought let's do something to liven up Tuesday a bit,'' Maddon said. "I wanted one Dominican trumpet player, but we got the entire band. Cause nothing can be hotter than a Dominican trumpet player on the right evening. So we went with the entire band, the plantains, we posted it up there. And it worked out pretty good.''

Maddon said he wanted to do something to include the Latin players, and was hoping for big bunches of plantains but was happy with what they did.

"I thought it was very festive, and appropriate, and helps you get back into the groove after a day off,'' he said.

DEVELOPING: The Rays have a Latin music band playing in the clubhouse and plantains hanging around Fernando Rodney's and Joel Peralta's lockers as they relax before tonight's game against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field.

There are, not coincidentally, 27 plantains hanging from the ceiling of the clubhouse in 9 bunches of 3.

Peralta took advantage of the opportunity to dance with one of the members of the band.
