LHP Jonny Venters tears UCL again, deciding on future

LHP Jonny Venters' latest comeback attempt is over after he tore his UCL again.

Venters, 31, has been pitching with advanced Class A Charlotte in hopes of joining the Rays sometime this summer.

The former Braves All-Star has had three Tommy John elbow surgeries already, and has not pitched in a major-league game since 2012.

Agent BB Abbott said Venters is still deciding on a course of action, whether to retire or try to work his way back yet again.

Venters had made four appearances for the Stone Crabs in June, but threw only four pitches in his fifth, on June 20, before leaving the mound.
