Live from Port Charlotte, Day 8
UPDATE, 10:32: RHP Kyle Farnsworth was dropped from the schedule to throw batting practice today, a move the Rays and he say is simply to take a slow pace given the extended spring and his age (36) and not due to any signs or concerns of injury. ""There's nothing wrong at all,'' Farnsworth said. "There's no reason to rush anything since we're here for two months. Everything's good.'' Farnsworth missed half of last season with an elbow injury that was diagnosed at the end of the spring.
DEVELOPING: The Rays have another long day planned on the fields here at Port Charlotte, with the workout starting at 9:30 and running past 1. Situational hitting will again be a focus, along with some baserunning and first-and-third drills.
The highlight, such as it is, will be live batting practice, with David Price, Roberto Hernandez (who looks to be the starter for Saturday's exhibition opener), Jeff Niemann and Fernando Rodney among those scheduled to throw.
