Live from Port Charlotte: Full squad at work, Ian Desmond off board
UPDATE, 12:44: RHP Ryan Webb was scratched from a planned live batting practice session on Sunday and instead will throw a bullpen on Monday due to some light tightness in his left hamstring. ... RHP Alex Colome and LHP Xaiver Cedeno are being held back by design based on their heavy 2015 workloads and projected 2016 roles. Both are slated to throw a bullpen session on Monday, then get two days off and move into their first live batting practice. ... RHP Brad Boxberger may have his workload similarly reduced during the spring.
Snell drew raves from the hitters and C Curt Casali, and a quip from manager Kevin Cash, who said: "He looks like a 12-year-old throwing 98 mph out there and locating all of his pitches.''
UPDATE, 11:44: Prospects LHP Blake Snell and RHP Taylor Guerrieri were both impressive in their live BP sessions.
DEVELOPING: After an abbreviated workout Saturday due to the Fan Fest at Tropicana Field, the Rays are back on the fields today for a full day's work.
There will be infield and outfield work, then some baserunning fundamentals and live batting practice, with RHP Erasmo Ramirez and top prospect LHP Blake Snell among those scheduled to throw.
Some early notes:
* The discussion over whether the Rays should give up the No. 13 pick in the next draft to sign free agent SS Ian Desmond is now a moot point as the Sarasota native signed with the Rangers.
* Rays players went through MLB's domestic violence seminar for about an hour before today's workout.
