Live update: LHP David Price sharp in second rehab start



Update 7:41 p.m. LHP David Price allows two hits in the 16-pitch fifth inning, but leaves having not given up a run in his second rehab start.


Price is likely done, having already thrown 72 pitches (54 for strikes), striking out eight and walking just one. He hit 92-95 mph with his fastball, and threw 15 first pitch strikes out of 19 batters.

Update 7:23 p.m. Price strikes out two more in a 22-pitch fourth (14 strikes), allowing a walk, but stranding a runner at third base.

Price has eight strikeouts in four innings, allowing just one walk, throwing 56 pitches (41 strikes). Hitting 92-95 mph

Update 7:06 p.m. LHP David Price with another perfect inning, a eight-pitch third, striking out another.

Price has thrown three hitless innings for Class-A Charlotte, with six strikeouts (34 pitches, 27 for strikes). Hit 95 mph, and has just one two-ball count.

Update 6:53 p.m. LHP David Price continues to look sharp in second rehab start, striking out four in the second inning (14 of 16 pitches for strikes). One hitter advanced due to a strikeout on a wild pitch.

But that's five strikeouts overall through two innings for Price, who has thrown 21 of 26 pitches for strikes, hitting 92-94 mph on the radar gun.

Update 6:35 p.m. LHP David Price breezes through perfect, 10 pitch first inning for Class-A Charlotte, including one strikeout.

Developing: Rays Cy Young winning lefthander David Price is making his second, and potentially final, rehab start tonight for Class-A Charlotte in Port Charlotte.

Price is expected to throw about 70 pitches, four innings, against Class-A Bradenton. Out since mid-May with a left triceps strain, Price will be re-evaluated Thursday and if all goes well, he could rejoin the Rays rotation next week in Houston.
