Rays LHP David Price feels really good in rehab start

Update 7:03 p.m. Rays LHP David Price admitted he was a little nervous before Friday's rehab start for Class A Charlotte, his first game action in about six weeks.

"My legs were shaking," Price said. "It feels like you're pitching in the postseason with those jitters."

But Price, out since mid-May with a left triceps strain, was encouraged with how he pitched - and felt - after his 2 1/3 inning outing, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, with two walks, and four strikeouts.

Price said he wanted to throw more than 29 strikes in his 49-pitch outing, but his arm felt good, "better" than before his injury. But Price said he doesn't have a timetable for his return, rather taking it "day-by-day"; he'll likely have at least one more rehab start before rejoiing the team in early July.

"I'm never satisfied but I felt good," Price said. "And that was the biggest thing, getting out there, facing opposing hitters, hearing the walk-up songs, hearing the PA announcer. It's all new to me, it's been a month and a half, almost five and a half, six weeks. It feels good to get back out there."

Update 6:00 p.m. LHP David Price pitched 2 1/3 innings in Friday's rehab start for Class-A Charlotte, tipping his cap and waving to a large ovation at McKechnie Field after exiting in the third.

Price, out since mid-May with a left triceps strain, allowed two runs (one earned), two hits, walking two and striking out four in a 49-pitch outing (29 for strikes).

Update 5:38 p.m. Rays LHP David Price gave up a run on a single and two errors in the second inning, and has now thrown 41 pitches.

Price gave up a leadoff single to Jose Osuna, after falling behind 3-1. Then, in a wild play, Carlos Mesa reached first on an error in shallow right on Hector Guevara, and Osuna scored when Drew Vettleson made a throwing error. Mesa was thrown out at third.

Price struck out Jacob Stallings and got Eric Avila to fly out to end inning. Price has four strikeouts, and two walks through two.

Update 5:23 p.m. Rays LHP David Price strikes out three, and walks two, in a 25-pitch first inning against Class-A Bradenton.

Price struck out the first hitter, Alen Hanson, before walking the next two on 3-2 pitches. He finished off the inning by striking out Stetson Allie and Willy Garcia, stranding a runner at second. Threw 15 of 25 pitches for strikes.

Developing: Rays Cy Young lefthander David Price is making his first rehab start tonight in Bradenton for Class-A Charlotte. Price, out since mid-May with a left triceps strain, was targeted for a late-June/early July return, with at least a couple minor league starts.
