UPDATE, 1:17: Teammate David Price already bought them a a gift: A breast pump. "That's what Evan told me to buy. It was the most expensive thing on the registry and I had to buy it.'' Price said he never bought a breast pump before: "I just got on line and did it. ... I don't know about those things.''

UPDATE, 12:40: Edmondson posted on her Twitter account a few minutes ago hat the it was "unexpected" but the doctors decided it "was best for both mommy and baby" to induce today.

DEVELOPING: 3B Evan Longoria left Rays camp to be with his girlfriend Jaime Edmondson, who is having labor induced today.

Edmondson was due April 1. They have said they are expecting a girl.

The Rays said Longoria and Edmondson would provide further details when appropriate.
