Monday morning report: Rays at Red Sox
UPDATE, 11:58: Maddon said neither Zobrist nor Peralta is a concern as both should be back soon. He confirmed that DeJesus is set to play Tuesday, and said the plan is use Betemit at DH today and at either first or third tomorrow.
Bench coach Dave Martinez and other team officials, including video coordinator Chris "Chico" Fernandez, are attending a meeting today with MLB officials to go over technical aspects of the new replay system, which will be in effect today.
Maddon also said Ramos is throwing in the minor-league game today since the Rays have seen him the most and there were not enough innings for him, Odorizzi and Bedard today,
UPDATE, 8:43: Rays 2B Ben Zobrist said he likely will be out another few days. His neck is still stiff, he saw the doctor, it's nothing serious but enough of an issue for him not to play. Said it's not considered related to earlier back issue.
RHP Joel Peralta said his stiff neck felt good playing catch on Sunday, but he doesn't know yet when he will pitch, saying it could be Tuesday or it could be another couple days.
LF David DeJesus said he is set to get back in the lineup Tuesday, having been out since last Tuesday with right side soreness.
Also, LHP Cesar Ramos won't go to Fort Myers as scheduled, and instead will work in a minor-league intrasquad game at Port Charlotte. That gives more innings vs. the Red Sox for the other two candidates for the No. 5 job - Jake Odorizzi and Erik Bedard. Heath Bell will also throw in the minor-league game.
DEVELOPING: The Rays are on the road again today, heading south to Fort Myers to face the Red Sox.
Marc Topkin will have all of the action on twitter at TBTimes_Rays.
Three of the candidates for the Rays No. 5 starter job are scheduled to pitch today, RH Jake Odorizzi making his first start, with Erik Bedard and Cesar Ramos set to work in relief.
Several of the Rays top players are scheduled to make the trip.
