Monday morning report: Moore 'fine,' game looks to be on
UPDATE, 11:50: The Rays are here in Fort Myers and the rain has let up, so it appears they will at least try to play today against the Twins. Plus the gates are open so they Twins must have a promising forecast.
UPDATE, 9:35: The Rays say SS prospect Hak-Ju Lee will miss 3-4 weeks with left calf strain, unrelated to left knee injury/surgery from 2013.
UPDATE, 8:27: Moore just passed through the clubhouse, said he feels fine, won't have the x-rays until around noon.
UPDATE, 8:22: Early word around the Rays clubhouse is that Moore is okay, that his jaw doesn't hurt and he's able to eat with no problem, all encouraging signs. He has not yet had X-rays however.
RHP Alex Cobb, who texted him Sunday "Welcome to the club,'' talked to Moore earlier this morning and said, "He's fine.''
It's been raining here in Port Charlotte as well as Fort Myers, so the Rays are staying here to hit in the cages this morning and won't head south until around 10:30.
Here is the Rays lineup, more reflective, as manager Joe Maddon said, of where some players may hit during the season, although obviously with 3B Evan Longoria, who is off today.
DEVELOPING: The Rays are headed back to Fort Myers today to face the Twins as they get to the final week of spring training.
RHP Chris Archer will be on the mound for the Rays in his final lengthy start of the season, expected to work at least six innings.
The big news of the morning will be an update on LHP Matt Moore, who appeared to escape serious injury Sunday when struck in the face by a line drive. Moore received 4-5 stitches in his lower lip, but passed initial concussion tests and otherwise said he felt okay. He said he will undergo x-rays today to check for a potential fractured jaw or dental damage.
