Moore escapes serious injury on liner to face
Rays LHP Matt Moore apparently escaped serious injury Sunday when he was struck on the face by a line drive.
Moore received several stitches in his lower lip, and will undergo X-rays on Monday to check on a possible fractured jaw, but passed initial concussion tests and said otherwise he was okay.
"We're very lucky today,'' he said.
Moore appeared to use his pitching hand to deflect the line drive off the bat of Boston's Xander Bogaerts, though he had no recollection of the specifics. He did finish the play, picking up the ball and tossing it to first base for the third out of the inning.
Moore said he did not think there was any reason he would not be ready to start the regular season.
