No-hitter for Triple-A Durham - Odorizzi, 3 relievers
UPDATE, 6:52: Odorizzi said everything was pretty much working for him.
“Everything was going my way,’’ Odorizzi said from the Providence, R.I., airport. “The defense was good behind me. It seemed everything was hit right at someone. Just kind of one of those days where everything goes your way."
Especially helpful was a ninth-inning catch at the wall by CF Rich Thompson. "That was that play you see in every no-hitter," Odorizzi said.
Odorizzi, who threw eight innings in a combined no-hitter in Class A in 2010, said there was some discussion of starting the eighth since he had thrown only 95 pitches, but the coaches decided against it since he would only be allowed to go to 110.
DEVELOPING: The Rays Triple-A Durham team threw a no-hitter at Pawtucket today, RHP Jake Odorizzi combining with three relievers - Frank De Los Santos, Kirby Yates and Jeff Beliveau.
The 2-1 win over the Red Sox affiliate was the second no-hitter for Durham in International League play. They had one in 2006 with Hammel and Salas.
