Deal with Blalock very close
The Rays are very close tonight to completing a deal to sign INF Hank Blalock to a minor-league contract.
Blalock, 29, is a former two-time All-Star who missed hefty portions of the 2007-2008 seasons with injuries but returned last year to hit 25 home runs for the Rangers, with a .234 average and 66 RBIs, splitting time between first base and DH.
Blalock gives the Rays depth and another option if they need an additional lefthanded bat.
The deal is expected to be finalized either late tonight or on Monday.
