OF Christian, C Rodriguez signed to minor-league deals with invites
UPDATE, 9:52: The Rays also signed C Eddy Rodriguez to a minor-league deal with a spring invite. Rodriguez, 28, made it to the majors briefly with the Padres in 2012, but split 2013 between Double-A and Triple-A.
He is a native of Cuba who went to high school in Miami and attended UM.
Rodriguez tweeted Monday he was "extremely excited" to be joining the Rays. He was a 20th round pick in 2006 by the Reds, and has a career minor-league average of .236 over eight seasons.
DEVELOPING: The Rays have signed OF Justin Christian to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training.
Christian, 33, has played parts of three seasons in the majors, in 2008 with the Yankees, in 2011-12 with the Giants. He spent last season with the Cardinals Triple-A Memphis team, hitting .270 with 3 homers, 29 RBIs and a .332 on-base percentage. He hits and throws right-handed.
Christian started his career in the Yankees organization, and has also played for the Orioles, Giants and Cardinals. His career Triple-A numbers are solid, a .301 career average and .362 on-base percentage.
