Peralta loves "over the hill" birthday surprise
Rays veteran reliever Joel Peralta said he was very surprised Saturday morning, his 37th birthday, to arrive in the clubhouse and find playful pranks poking fun at his age. There was a large "Look Who's Over the Hill," sign over his locker, with caution tape surrounding the area labeled, "Caution, Slow Senior," and "Old Timer Crossing." There was an inflatable walker where his chair would be.
"I love it," Peralta said, smiling. "I don't know who did it, but it's awesome."
Peralta guessed it was home clubhouse/equipment manager Chris Westmoreland who was the culprit. But he owned up to his older age, wearing a large "Over the Hill" hat and sunglasses. He playfully warned, however, the message on the inflatable cane he brought in.
"Tease me about my age, and I'll beat you with my cane."
