Porterfield an All-Star, more signings
Rays head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield was officially given a big honor on Thursday as an All-Star, announced as a member of American League squad for the annual mid-summer classic.
Porterfield, 48, is in his eighth season as the Rays head athletic trainer, and his 17th in the organization. Porterfield has received several honors from training organizations, and is regarded as one of the best in the game.
* The Rays have signed 5th-round pick Johnny Field for $250,000, according to Baseball America.
* 10th-round pick RHP Aaron Griffin tweeted that he had signed.
* They have a deal with 14th-round pick Jaime Schultz, per his high school's Twitter account.
