Home plate umpire Dan Bellino warns Rays pitcher David Price after he hit David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, left, as catcher Jose Molina looks on during the first inning of a game May 30 at Fenway Park.

Rays LHP David Price was fined an undisclosed amount by MLB for his role in Friday's game in Boston, the Times has learned.

Price hit two batters, David Ortiz and Mike Carp, leading to multiple ejections of Red Sox personnel, and then the suspension of Sox pitcher Brandon Workman. The incident also sparked a series of verbal exchanges between Price and Ortiz that continued Tuesday.

Ortiz may yet get fined too. MLB officials want to talk to him today or Thursday and get a sense of why he did what he did.
