Price named opening day starter
UPDATE, 12:11: Though hardly surprised, Price was nevertheless honored.
"Just to be the guy that takes the ball for our organization first and foremost is very special, and being at home, I'm throiwng the first pitch for our season, that means a lot as well,'' Price said. "It's special for me to be able to run out on that field first and lead our team out there being the Rays. It is very special.''
DEVELOPING: It's not exactly a surprise, but manager Joe Maddon officially named David Price the Rays opening day starter.
Price, who won the AL Cy Young Award last season, was the obvious choice.
This will be Price's second Opening Day start and he will face the Orioles on April 2 at the Trop.
Maddon said they were close, but not quite ready, to name the starters for the next few games, but it would not necessarily be a matter of alternating lefties and righties but how the rotation will impact the bullpen.
The speculation was that Jeremy Hellickson, a righty, would start game 2 and Matt Moore, a lefty, Game 3, followed by Alex Cobb and the fifth starter.
