UPDATE, 1:02: The schedule is now official, though subject to change. Based on MLB's release, it seems like Rays-Yankees opener will be early afternoon.

DEVELOPING: An official release is coming at 12:30, but highlights of the Rays 2017 schedule sent to sponsors shows they will stage a rare single-admission doubleheader against the A's on June 10, open the season on Sunday April 2 at home against the Yankees, and welcome back former manager Joe Maddon and his Chicago Cubs in September.

The doubleheader will be the first in the majors since July 16, 2011, when the A's hosted the Angels, and just the second in more than 20 years.

"Many of us in the Rays organization have fond memories of single-gate doubleheaders, so this is something that we have long wanted to do," Rays president Brian Auld said in a statement included in an accompanying release with the schedule. "The schedule lines up for it nicely next season and we're going to work hard to make it a special day at Tropicana Field."

This will be the second doubleheader at the Trop; the Rays and Tigers played on Sept. 30, 2004 as a makeup for games canceled due to the threat of a hurricane earlier in the season.

The Rays will open at home for the eighth straight year. This is the fourth time they host the Yankees to start the season.

Though Maddon and the Cubs will play at the Trop on Sept. 19-20, the Rays will see him first in Chicago as they play at Wrigley Field on July 4-5.

The Rays also host interleague games againts the Brewers, Reds and Marlins.
