Rays beat Pirates 6-2
The Rays beat the Pirates 6-2 Monday night, snapping a five-game losing streak.
LHP Matt Moore had another shaky start, taking him 106 pitches to get through just 4 2/3 innings. He allowed just two runs, but walked five, and gave up six hits. He said he's still struggling to get a feel for his fastball, but isn't concerned, saying it'll be there when he needs it.
3B Evan Longoria had his first homer of the spring, a two-run shot in the fifth. Ben Zobrist also had a two-run homer in the inning.
DH Shelley Duncan hit his team-leading fifth homer of the spring. RHPs Brandon Gomes and Joel Peralta had impressive relief outings.
After the game, the Rays made some news:
They optioned C Chris Gimenez to Triple-A Durham, making C Jose Lobaton their second catcher with Jose Molina to start the season.
They also reassigned Duncan, INF Mike Fontenot and OF Jason Bourgeois to minor league camp.
