Rays beat Rockies 8-3, head home after 4-5 trip

The Rays reached the end of the road with an 8-3 win over the Rockies on Sunday.

The victory gave them a 4-5 record on their second extended road trip of the season.

RHP Alex Cobb worked into the seventh, allowing three solo home runs but not much else, to improve to 4-2.

The Rays, playing without Yunel Escobar (bruised left hand) and Ben Zobrist (death of grandmother) took a 3-0 lead in the first, and added on three more after the Rockies drew to within 3-2 in the fourth.

James Loney had three hits - increasing his average to .398 - while Kelly Johnson, Ryan Roberts and Jose Lobaton drove in two runs each.

The Rays (14-16) open a 10-game, 11-day homestand on Monday against Toronto, with RHP Jeremy Hellickson facing Jays LHP Mark Buehrle.
