Rays decide fifth starter; it's not Bedard
The Rays have made their anticipated decision on the fifth starter, and while they're not ready to announce it yet, they said it's not veteran LHP Erik Bedard.
Manager Joe Maddon hopes that Bedard, 35, signed to a minor league deal, will stay with the organization and go to Triple-A. Bedard had seemed open to that, but has an opt-out clause Mar. 31, and will consider his options if other teams need a big-league starter.
The Rays will decide between LHP Cesar Ramos and RHP Jake Odorizzi, both of whom were sitting in their clubhouse chair and waiting to be called in to a meeting after today's game.
"Just wait a little longer I guess, "Odorizzi said.
