Rays, Giants talk about injured prospect Fox, compensaton possible
Rays baseball operations president Matt Silverman and Giants GM Bobby Evans spoke Saturday about the injury status of prospect SS Lucius Fox, a key part of the return in the Matt Moore trade, and potential additional compensation.
The Rays' position is that Fox has a bone bruise in his left foot as the result of a foul ball that will require him to likely miss the rest of the minor-league season, and they were not made aware of it at the time of the trade. The Giants' position is that Fox had played for a week after the foul ball without complaining of discomfort.
The Tampa Bay Times first reported on the situation Friday, and the potential for additional compensation. The Rays plan to keep Fox no matter what.
Evans told the San Francisco Chronicle the issue seems to be a matter of a difference of medical opinion. He said the Giants would review the Rays' medical reports and some form of compensation could be worked out, possibly financial. Silverman declined comment until the matter is resolved
