Rays in mix for potential Fuld return
Sam Fuld loved playing for the Rays, so it's no surprise that the free agent outfielder said Tampa Bay is in "the mix" among several teams he's considering.
Fuld, 32, was nontendered in December, coming off the least productive of his three seasons with the Rays, hitting .199 with a .270 on-base percentage, though he played in a career-high 118 games, starting 48.
Fuld believes Tampa Bay is a "perfect organization" for him to be part of, but has explored his opportunities this offseason and is "just waiting for the landscape to clear a bit." He's reportedly considering minor league deals from five different teams.
The Rays are in good shape in the outfield, with Desmond Jennings, Wil Myers, David DeJesus and Matt Joyce, but if they're looking for options to fill a bench role, or provide depth, they know what they have in Fuld.
"Would definitely be nice to be back if the opportunity is right," Fuld said.
