Rays Kevin Kiermaier wins Wilson defensive award
While Rays CF Kevin Kiermaier was in New York City on Friday night accepting his Gold Glove award, he won another honor for his prowess in centerfield, chosen the top defensive centerfielder by Wilson,
Kiermaier was chosen for the Wilson award based on a formula combining traditional defensive stats and advanced metrics, plus data compuled by the Inside Edge scouting service.
Wilson names one winner at each position, as well as an overall defensive players of the year, which went to Boston's Mookie Betts, and a defensive team of the year, which was the Giants.
Though Kiermaier won his second straight Gold Glove, he did not get the Platinum Glove, which goes to the overall top defensive player in each league. Cleveland SS Francisco Lindor was the AL winner, Chicago's Anthony Rizzo in the NL.
