Rays LHP Matt Moore feels good in more "casual" simulated game
Due to Wednesday’s rainout in Fort Myers, LHP Matt Moore took his turn in a much different setting Thursday, throwing a 60-pitch simulated game on a back field.
But after Moore’s noon session against teammates like OF Shelley Duncan, INF Ryan Roberts and INF Sean Rodriguez, he felt like he got what he needed out of it.
“It felt fine,” Moore said. “Everything felt like a workday, not quite what (Wednesday night) would have been like. It was a bit more casual.”
Casual would be an understatement, with first base coach George Hendrick riding his bike into the outfield to shag fly ballls. Pitching coach Jim Hickey gave tips and had Moore pitch in pretend situations, with the lefthander taking short breaks in the dugout to simulate the “up-downs” during games.
“It has its perks,” Moore said. “But at the same time it’s also nice to be under the lights, too.”
