Rays lose to Pirates 6-4
The Rays lost their game in Bradenton to the Pirates 6-4.
RHP Alex Cobb started, navigated some mid-innings issues, and worked into the seventh, throwing 103 pitches.
Cobb said he felt good overall and welcomed the chance to work into the seventh. Bench coach Dave Martinez, who was managing, said Cobb had a good day overall.
The Rays led 4-3, thanks in part to a home run by Ben Zobrist (off Mike Zagurski), and doubles by Luke Scott and Chris Gimenez, going to the eighth, but Dane De La Rosa allowed a two-out double and a walk, then Kirby Yates allowed a three-run homer to Stefan Welch.
C Craig Albernaz, a career organization man from Eckerd College, got his first hit in a major-league exhibition, having been invited to five camps and going 0-for-9.
