Rays lose to Red Sox 5-1



The Rays lost to the Red Sox 5-1 on Monday in Fort Myers.

RHP Jeremy Hellickson was sharp in his first start (second appearance) of the spring, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four over three innings. Both he and manager Joe Maddon were pleased with his work.

RHP Jeff Niemann, competing for a spot in the rotation, worked 2 2/3 innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.

Chris Gimenez, getting a start behind the plate, had two hits. INF Cole Figueroa knocked in the only run. DH Jack Cust had a double.

The Rays are on the other side of Fort Myers on Tuesday to play the Twins, with Matt Moore on the mound.
