Rays Maddon on Cabrera: "He's wonderful, I just wish he wouldn't cry so much"
The Rays were not pleased with how the Tigers acted in retaliating for what they felt was an inapporpriate pitch to Miguel Cabrera on on Saturday by hitting Ben Zobrist on Sunday, and said so after the 3-1 win.
Manager Joe Maddon had the most pointed line, saying of Cabrera:
"This guy is outstanding, he's wonderful. I just wish he wouldn't cry so much.'
Maddon said there was no doubt it was premeditated that Rick Porcello hit Zobrist in the first inning on purpose: "I thought it was absolutely uncalled for and hopefully the league will take a look at that.''
And asked about the Rays seeking further revenge, Maddon several times referenced the famous novel, The Godfather: "Just read Mario Puzo, that's all, he'll give you all the answers. Read Puzo, that's all I'm going to say. That's how the family thing works. Just read it, there's many more opportunities to play good, hard baseball and we will.''
Maddon also pointed out the Tigers didn't react anywhere near as much when SS Jhonny Peralta saw a high and inside pitch Sunday from Rodney. "So if I'm Jhonny Peralta, I'm upset,'' he said.
