Rays' Moore added to AL All-Star roster
Matt Moore is going to the All-Star Game after all.
Moore, who picked up his 13th win on Thursday, was added to the American League roster as the replacement for Texas’ Yu Darvish, who was placed on the disabled list. Darvish was one of the five starters elected to the American League team in the player vote.
Moore, 24, will be making his first All-Star appearance. He will join Rays INF/OF Ben Zobrist, who was named to the team last week, in New York for Tuesday’s game.
When Moore was not selected originally, manager Joe Maddon said he was confident Moore had a good chance to be added as a replacement for one of the three All-Stars who are scheduled to start for their teams on Sunday. But Moore didn’t have to wait as Darvish’s injury created an immediate opening.
For what it’s worth, there hasn’t been a pitcher with 13 wins not make the All-Star Game since 1985, when Atlanta’s Rick Mahler was left out at 13-7, 3.27.
