Rays place Brandon Guyer on DL with hamstring strain, recall Nick Franklin
OF Brandon Guyer had been one of the Rays hottest hitters over the last month, but he will be out at least two weeks now after being placed on the DL with a left hamstring strain.
Guyer said he felt the hamstring grab during the first game in Kansas City, but thought it was minor and would improve. But it continued to be an issue and he felt it worsen when he grounded out to end Friday's game, so he told the medical staff and the decision was made to DL him now rather than risk a more severe injury.
INF Nick Franklin was called up to take his place, based on his recent hot streak, with six multi-hit games in his last 10. The Rays can make that work because Taylor Motter can play the outfield as well. There were some outfielders at Durham worthy of consideration, though they were not on the 40-man roster - Jaff Decker and Dayron Varona.
Guyer said he hopes to have just the minimal 15-day stay on the DL.
