Rays Ramos reunited with fiance who was battling lymphoma
Rays LHP Cesar Ramos had a welcome early-morning wakeup in his hotel room Friday morning, fiancé Melanie McCauley arriving in New York after being cleared by her oncologist following treatments for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
“Definitely a great feeling, a huge relief, just having her here,’’ Ramos said. “Hopefully that’s it with her battle. Hopefully that’s the end of it, and it stays away, and we move forward.’’
McCauley underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments in California, and will return for a checkup when the Rays are there in August, free to travel with Ramos and move back to the Tampa Bay area.
Also, her arrival on a red-eye flight made for a nice gift for Ramos, who turns 29 on Saturday. “Definitely an early birthday present,’’ he said. “I can’t complain.’’
