Rays sign Jayson Nix to minor league deal
The Rays added a potential utility player to their bench Thursday, signing INF Jayson Nix to a minor league deal with an invite to major league spring training.

Nix, 31, provides versatility defensively, having played mostly second, shortstop and third base in his six big-league seasons; he also has experience in leftfield and rightfield. The Rays are very familiar with Nix, who has spent the last three years in the American League East, with Toronto (2011) and the Yankees (2012-2013).
Nix hit .236 with three homers and 24 RBI over 87 games last season in New York, while also adding a career-high 13 steals. For his career, Nix has hit. 218 with three times as many strikeouts (343) as walks (105).
