The Rays continue to shuffle their pitching staff, and manipulate the roster rules, optioning RHP Jake Odorizzi to Double-A Montgomery and calling up RHP Brandon Gomes.

Sending Odorizzi to Montgomery rather than Durham is a procedural move a, the Rays can call him back up on Tuesday, the day after the Biscuits season ends. And since he started Thursday, he won't pitch in the interim. If the Rays sent him back to Durham, he would not be eligible to be called up until either the standard 10-day period, or until the Bulls are eliminated from the playoffs.

Gomes missed three months with a lat strain, was reinstated from the DL in mid-August then sent back to Durham. He has a 2.61 ERA in 9 games for the Bulls between his rehab assignment and being optioned there.
