Rays set rotation for Tigers series: Moore, Cobb, Hernandez
The Rays finally decided what to do with LHP Matt Moore, having him start Tuesday to open the series in Detroit.
Moore was scheduled to pitch Thursday, but after his Friday start was cut short to just one inning (11 pitches) due to the rain delays, they planned to move him up a few days.
This way, RHP Alex Cobb will pitch Wednesday, and RHP Roberto Hernandez Thursday.
Cobb said the move "made sense," and that the cut around the fingernail on his right middle finger is pretty much healed, but giving it an extra day won't hurt. Cobb said he threw a bullpen session Saturday, and through a few flat-ground curveballs with no issue.
The Rays ended up making no moves in the bullpen, keeping LHP Alex Torres - who pitched four scoreless innings Saturday. Manager Joe Maddon said they felt comfortable doing so because they felt they were covered, with RHPs Joel Peralta, RHP Fernando Rodney, LHP Jake McGee, among others, available.
Torres will continue to serve as the team's long man, at least for the time being.
