Rays sign four day-two draft picks

The Rays announced the signings of four of their day-two selections from the amateur draft:  C Mac James (sixth round, Oklahoma), RHP Mike Franco (seventh, Florida International), 3B Daniel Miles (eighth, Tennessee Tech) and RHP Chris Pike (ninth, Oklahoma City University).

James was the first catcher the Rays selected. He batted .330 – eighth in the Big 12 – as a junior for the Sooners.

Franco was second nationally with a 1.09 ERA – a new Conference USA record - and struck out 112 batters at FIU.

Miles hit .380 at Tennessee Tech during his senior season and was a first-team Louisville Slugger All-American.

Pike made headlines this spring by throwing the 24th perfect game in NAIA history…and following it up with a no-hitter in his next start.
