Rays tie 3-3, finish spring 15-17-2
The Rays and Tigers played to a 3-3 tie before a crowd announced in excess of 15,000 at Tropicana Field today.
The good news for the Rays was that LHP Matt Moore put a good finish on a bad spring, overcoming a 25-pitch first inning to work three quick innings and leave manager Joe Maddon feeling confident he found his groove.
The Rays got their runs on home runs by James Loney, Ryan Roberts and Sean Rodriguez.
The bad news was that the Rays won only once in their last 11 spring games, eliminating the premise of building momentum going into the season. Maddon said he obviously would have preferred they won more, but wasn't too concerned because they lost several of the games late with minor-leaguers on the field.
The Rays are off Sunday, have a closed workout at the Trop on Monday and then open the season Tuesday vs. the Orioles.
