Rays trade RHP Jhan Marinez to Brewers for cash considerations
The Rays late Thursday traded RHP Jhan Marinez to the Brewers for cash considerations.
Marinez, who was added to the bullpen in late April, was desigated for assignment on Saturday, so he had to be traded, released or passed through waivers (so he could be senr to the minors) within 10 days.
It made sense for the Rays to get something - whatever considerations those were - since it was unlikely Marinez would have cleared waivers.
Marinez, who spent most of 2015 and started 2016 at Triple-A Durham, was impressive in three appearances for the Rays, allowing two hits and one run over 3 2/3. At the time, manager Kevin Cash said Marinez's pitching made it a harder decision. Among the Rays other choices at the time would have been to send RHP Steve Geltz to the minors.
