Rays whip Astros 12-0 Monday night
The Rays were hoping to take advantage of a 14-game stretch before the All-Star break against some of the American League's worst teams.
On Monday, Tampa Bay got off to a good start by thumping the Astros, 12-0 at Minute Maid Park.
The Rays (44-39) racked up 17 hits, and held Houston - which is in last place in the AL West - to just two. There were plenty of stars in this one, with lefty Matt Moore picking up his third straight win with seven shutout innings. James Loney extended his hitting streak to 12 games and tallied his 500th career RBI. Sean Rodriguez had his first four-hit night. Jose Lobaton and Sam Fuld each picked up three hits.
But it was Ryan Roberts, who may get sent down Tuesday to make room for LHP David Price, who made a lasting impression, ripping two homers in a memorable three-hit night. It was his fourth career multi-homer game, and second of the season (April 22 against Yankees).
