Rays win another close one. 1-0 over Reds
The Rays got another strong starting pitching performance and logged another tense victory over the Reds Saturday afternoon, 1-0.
Alex Cobb worked seven solid innings, allowing only four hits (and no walk) while striking out five in throwing 87 pitches. He was lifted in the eighth for pinch-hitter Logan Forsythe, who doubled to open the eighth but was stranded.
Jake McGee worked the eighth for the Rays, and then closer Grant Balfour - in much less eventful fashion that Friday when he walked the bases loaded - finished for his fourth save, getting Brandon Phillips to ground into a double play after walking Joey Votto with one out.
The play of the game came in the fourth inning, when rookie CF Kevin Kiermaier threw out Joey Votto at the plate.
The Rays got their run early, as James Loney homered to right off Reds starter Alfredo Simon to open the second inning.
The Rays will try for a series sweep on Sunday with Cesar Ramos on the mound filling in for injured Matt Moore.
