RHP Chase Whitley claimed from Yankees
In advance of officially putting several prospects to their 40-man roster, the Rays added a more experienced arm, claiming RHP Chase Whitley from the Yankees.
Whitley, though, is still rehabbing from Tommy John elbow surgery and likely won't be ready to pitch until late in the 2016 season.
Whitley, 26, was 1-2, 4.19 in four starts for the Yankees before getting hurt; his last appearance for the Yankees was May 14 at the Trop against the Rays. He was 4-3, 5.23 in 24 games (12 starts) in 2014.
He compiled a 17-9, 2.89 mark at Triple-A over four seasons, with 178 strikeouts in 196 1/3 innings.
The Rays will have to create space on the 40-man roster for Whitley as well.
