Scott to DL, Gomes activated, Jennings close
The Rays decided not to wait for DH Luke Scott's back tightness to clear up and put him on the 15-day DL retroactive until Aug. 15,
To take his place on the roster now, RHP Brandon Gomes (lat strain) was activated on the DL and will add an extra arm to the bullpen.
His stay seems likely to be short, as CF Desmond Jennings (finger) is on track to be activated from the DL on Monday.
The Rays will play with only a three-man bench tonight and Sunday.
Since Gomes was on the 60-day DL, the Rays also had to make room on the 40-man roster, and they did so by transferring RHP Jesse Crain (shoulder) to the 60-day DL. That pushes his potential return back to Aug. 29, but he wasn't going to be ready by then anyway.
Also, LHP Matt Moore (elbow) is still on track to play catch Sunday but it seems unlikely he will return by next weekend's series vs. the Yankees.
