Scott to start rehab assignment Tuesday
DH Luke Scott will start his long-awaited rehab assignment on Tuesday with Class A Charlotte, testing the previously strained right calf that has kept him sidelined since the end of spring training.
Scott is hoping for a short rehab stint, but it sounds like the Rays will want to see him play for at least a week, with the potential he could join the team during in Kansas City during the middle leg of the upcoming three-city road trip.
Scott will play Tuesday at DH for the Stone Crabs then take Wednesday off and then ease into a more regular schedule.
One thing to keep in mind is that after Kansas City the Rays go to Denver for a May 3-5 series in which they can't use a DH, so if Scott isn't ready until close to then they could wait until getting back home afterwards.
The Rays will have to make room on the roster when Scott does return, with Shelley Duncan - who took his place - seemingly most likely to go, though the Rays would risk losing him on waivers. They instead could send down Sean Rodriguez or Ryan Roberts.
