Some Rays numbers to note, on LoMo's contract, Smith's back
As the Rays get set to open spring training in the next week, there were some interesting numbers to talk about on Monday.
* Though a corresponding roster move was not announced, their signing of 1B Logan Morrison is official. Morrison gets a $2.5-million base salary, a $250,000 increase if he spends less than 60 days on the DL "due to specific injury" and up to $1-million in incentives based on plate appearances. Morrison gets $250,000 for making 400, 450, 500 and 550.
* OF Mallex Smith, the former Brave acquired in trade from Seattle, will wear No. 0, the first player in Rays franchise history to do so. Haven't yet heard the reason why.
Here are numbers for other new players:
RHP Jose De Leon 87
C Wilson Ramos 40
OF Colby Rasmus 28
RHP Shawn Tolleson 38
Also, C Luke Maile is switching from 46 to 21.
