Sports Illustrated picks Rays for Series
UPDATE, 12:46: Rays manager Joe Maddon was unaware until informed by reporters and was pleased to hear.
"I'll take it. Not the losing part. But I'll take getting to the World Series. That's interesting,'' he said. "I think we're capable. I love it. I think it's great. You never run away from that kind of stuff. Expectations are good. I like expectations. I think they give you something to live up to. There may have been a time you might run away from that stuff or cower a bit, but I think we're beyond that and I would like to believe that our players really enjoy that stuff, too.''
DEVELOPING: David Price is only one of a half-dozen regional covers, so maybe it's not quite worthy of a full Sports Illustrated cover curse, but the Rays are a popular pick among SI's writers to get to the World Series this season in their preview edition out this week.
Lead writer Tom Verducci has the Rays going to the Series and losing to the Nats. He also has a piece on the Rays Way of developing pitching.
Ben Reiter has the Rays beating the Dodgers in the Series, Joe Lemire and Joe Sheehan both have them losing to the Nats.
Also, five of the SI writers pick OF Wil Myers to be rookie of the year, and two pick Evan Longoria as AL MVP.
Here is a link to their predictions.
