Sternberg was a candidate for MLB commissioner's job
Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg was among the candidates interviewed to be baseball's next commissioner but is not among the finalists, the Tampa Bay Times has confirmed.
Owners are expected to vote as soon as next week among three candidates - MLB chief operating officer Rob Manfred, MLB top business official Tim Brosnan and Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, according to the New York Times, which first reported that Sternberg - and Brewers owner Mark Attanasio - were also interviewed by the search committee.
Sternberg declined comment.
Rays president Matt Silverman told the Tampa Bay Times, "Given Stu's love of the game, it didn't surprise me to read the report that he met with the committee.''
Sternberg has served on several key MLB committees.
