Sunday game report: Rays beat Red Sox 8-4, Price strong



UPDATE, 5:06: A late scoring change took away an error from Boston 3B Will Middlebrooks, giving Loney 5 RBIs on the day.

The crowd of 7.852 was not only a sellout, but also a Charlotte Sports Park record.

DEVELOPING:  Ace LHP David Price was dazzling again Sunday as the Rays beat the Red Sox 8-4, improving their spring record to 11-4-2.

Price worked into the seventh, allowing two runs on three hits, a walk and a hit batter striking out seven. He threw 91 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Price said he felt so good befor the game he told pitching coach Jim Hickey he wished it was opening day, and he went out and pitched like it was.

James Loney led the offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Rays are off Monday, then play at the Twins on Tuesday night.

INF Sean Rodriguez didn't play again Sunday, limited by a tight left hamsting. He is expected to play in a minor-league game Tuesday.
