Sunday game report: Rays tie Yankees 3-3

The Rays and Yankees played to a 3-3, 10-inning tie on Sunday in Tampa.

The Rays, after a strong start by Chris Archer, took a 2-0 lead in the 7th and made it 3-1 in the eighth, but couldn't hold it. A throwing error by catcher Eddy Rodriguez led to a Yankees run in the eighth, and a wild pitch by LH Braulio Lara scored the tying run in the ninth.

Archer was impressive working in to the fourth, hitting 97 mph and showing precise command and control.

"He was dominant today,'' C Ryan Hanigan said. "You could tell by the swings they were taking the type of stuff he's got.''

Rays 1B James Loney had a defensive highlight, a diving play to rob Derek Jeter of a hit.

The Rays face the Red Sox in Fort Myers on Monday.
