Sunday morning report: Rays vs. Twins



UPDATE, 10:35: Maddon said Zobrist (back) continues to improve, on target to make his spring debut Monday or Tuesday. ... Maddon said seeing some of the minor leaguers play is a big benefit of the spring so he knows what they look like and can do if needed.

Maddon said he had a great time on Saturday at the DeBartolo Foundation gala in Tampa, sitting with the DeBartolo's and meeting, among other people, 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick - talking about football and baseball; former Bucs RB Warrick Dunn; new Bucs coach Lovie Smith and GM Jason Licht, finding out that Licht's wife also went to Lafayette College, and that her dad was in the same fraternity there as Maddon, Zeta Psi.

One highlight of this morning was that Josh Lueke's wife baked and personally decorated a cookie for player in the shape of a jersey with their name and number.

DEVELOPING: The Rays are back at the Charlotte Sports Park today, hosting the Twins with RHP Alex Cobb on the mound for his first start of the spring.

The Twins are starting RHP Ricky Nolasco.

Today is the first of four games with the Twins that will determine the Knutson Cup, named for press box attendant extraordinare Dukes Knutson, who worked for both teams.
