Free-agent OF Sam Fuld, who earned the nickname "Super" by making amazing acrobatic catches, is talking with the Rays and other teams in hopes of soon getting back on the field.

Fuld, 35, missed all of last season, sustaining a shoulder injury that required surgery, but has been working hard to get back and figures to be fully ready by opening day.

Fuld is realistic enough to know he is likely to have to take a minor-league deal, and would be willing to go to Triple-A to play his way back to top form.

The Rays are among several teams that have "kept in contact" with Fuld, who became a fan favorite in Tampa Bay with his scrappy, hustling style of play and his willingness to go out in making diving catches all over the outfield duing his 2011-13 stint. He played for the A's and Twins in 2014-15.

As he waits somewhat patiently for a job offer, Fuld is planning to play for Team Israel in the upcoming WBC tournament, with first-round games in Korea.

Fuld is also an extremely bright and sharp thinker, and is likely to have the opportunity to work in a front office once he is doine playing.
