Craze over gnome continues, much to Maddon's amazement
DEVELOPING: The Joe Maddon Gnome is not only one of the Rays most unique giveaways, it's also apparently one of the more valuable.
You knew the interest was high when the lines were long outside Tropicana Field before Wednesday's game, as just the first 10,000 fans were given the figurine, a rendition of the Rays manager with a pointed gnome hat and hoodie.
But in checking out EBay on Thursday, there were Joe Maddon Gnomes sold for as high as $55 (http://bit.ly/ZRbLFv).
Whether the Rays offer the promotion for a second time - like they did with the very popular "Zim Bear" - remains to be seen.
Maddon loved the gnome, saying it "looks exactly like me," admitting he's humbled by being a gnome. And he's apparently holding onto his, as Maddon tweeted after Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Yankees the "winning gnome is packed in my bag and heading to Chicago" for the team's road trip.
